ALPINE

Amended 7th March 2025
Step 5 onwards should read:
5.  Slst in first st (pm).  Blslst in next st, then bldc in every st up to and including body marker.  Blslst in final 15st.  Ch1, tighten, turn.

6.  Repeat steps 1 to 5 until hat is correct size, ending with step 3 on the final repeat.  (Approx 10 or 11 further repeats.  This will be stretchy.)

7.  Bring the starting edge of the hat up in front of the current working edge and line up the sides, so the cast on edge will be towards you and working edge away from you.

8.  Insert the hook into the front loop of the cast on edge and back loop of the working edge.  Yo, pull a loop through all loops on the hook (i.e. a slst).  Try to keep this loose and even as with previous rows.

9.  Repeat this process all the way up the edge of the hat - when you reach the decreases, insert the hook into the row end and following stitches on the working edge as detailed in step 4.

10.  When you reach the end, cut the yarn leaving a long end and pull through the final stitch.

11.  Thread the yarn end onto a darning needle, and insert into each of the row end turning chains (these will look like little bumps).  Pull this tight to close the top of the hat.  Repeat to secure.

12.  Weave in all ends. Turn this out to the right side to wear.
